Allied Universal Services is currently searching for aProfessional Security Officer to work at the City of Seattle in Downtown Seattle.
The Professional Security Officer is the heart of Allied Universal Services. Our officers allow us to accomplish our company’s core purpose which is “to serve, secure and care for the people and businesses in our communities”.
Previous Security, Military and/or Customer Service experience required.
Observes and reports activities and incidents at City of Seattle client properties, providing for the security and safety of client property and personnel. Makes periodic tours to check for irregularities and to inspect protection of devices and fire control equipment. Preserves order and may act to enforce regulations and directives for the site pertaining to personnel, visitors, and premises.◾Controls access to client site or facility through the admittance process; assists visitors with a legitimate need to gain entry to the facility; screens visitors and client employees in an efficient manner in order to expedite their admittance to the site or facility. Provides after-hours access as requested by client representatives.◾Provides an atmosphere in which all client employees and visitors know that the client responds to and cares about their needs; provides a courteous, respectful, and pleasant interaction with each client employee and visitor as perceived from their point of view; presents a good image of the client and its security department.◾Maintains a professional, helpful and approachable comportment toward client staff, co-workers, supervisors and the public.◾Communicates in a manner that is open, honest and responsive in all situations; to the extent authorized, provides information regarding the site and surrounding area as requested by visitors.◾Monitors entrances and exits; acts to prevent unapproved or unlawful entry; controls entrances, the movement of people and vehicles, and parking; operates a gate and examines vehicle contents; monitors remote entrances using closed circuit television; operates remote access devices; in a calm manner directs persons who cause a disturbance to leave the property.◾Gives verbal direction to staff and visiting public.◾Patrols assigned site on foot; checks for unsafe conditions, hazards, unlocked doors, security violations, blocked ingress and egress, mechanical problems, and unauthorized persons; inspects buildings and grounds using appropriate equipment and protective gear.◾Protects evidence or scene of incident in the event of accidents, emergencies, or security investigations; sets up barriers and signage, and provide direction or information to others.◾Prepares logs or reports as required for site; writes or types reports or enters information in a computer using standard grammar and spelling; inspects security control logs and takes action as required.◾Communicates security issues with supervisors as needed.◾Recognizes individuals and/or situations that may pose a threat and takes appropriate action. Uses de-escalation techniques to control situations whenever possible. Is prepared to physically intervene to defend self or others from attack using handcuffs, pepper foam or other defensive tactics while complying with use of force policy.◾Handles situations and follows directions without hesitation while under stressful conditions.◾Monitors and responds on a two-way radio while performing other duties.◾Observes and reports incidents or suspicious activity to client representatives, company management, life/safety personnel or public safety authorities as appropriate for the circumstances.◾Responds to incidents of fire, medical emergency, bomb threat, flooding, water discharge, elevator emergency, hazardous materials, inclement weather, and other incidents or conditions following procedures established for the site, by the company, and/or through training or certification.◾Carries out specific tasks and duties of a similar nature and scope as required for the assigned site.◾Must be able to meet and continue to meet any applicable state, county, and municipal licensing requirements for Security Officers.◾Knowledge of or ability to learn security operations and procedures.◾Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form.◾Ability to be an effective team member.◾Ability to maintain professional composure when dealing with unusual circumstances.◾Courteous telephone manner.◾Ability to adapt to changes in external environment and organization.◾Ability to write routine correspondence, including logs and reports.◾Good organizational skills.◾Ability to provide high quality customer service.◾Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively at various social levels and across diverse cultures.◾Ability to evaluate threats and determine the level of response necessary using use of force policy. Ability to use handcuffs, pepper foam and defensive tactics according to use of force policy
The Professional Security Officer is responsible for the safety and security of the facilities they protect. Our security officers act as a visible deterrent to crime and client rule infractions; they detect and report suspicious, unsafe or criminal acts at or near their assigned posts which may be a threat to the property, clients, guests or employees at the site. Although essential activities may differ based on the facility at which they work, below are some of the standards:
Ensure the facility is provided with high quality security services to protect people and property
Report safety concerns, security breaches and unusual circumstances both verbally and in writing
Build, improve and maintain effective relationships with both client employees and guests
Answer questions and assist guests and employees
Answer phones or greet guests / employees in a professional, welcoming manner
Physical and Mental Functions:
Stand or walk constantly (for up to an entire shift) on various surfaces (tile, concrete, carpet)
Climb stairs, ramps, or ladders occasionally during shift
Occasionally bend/twist at waist/knees/neck to perform various duties
Occasionally lift or carry up to 40 pounds
Run as needed
Constant use of both hands and arms in reaching/handling/grasping/fingering while using phone, notepad, writing reports, and other administrative tasks
Constant use of eyes (correctable vision to normal level required) to observe, read, interact with public and co-workers, view security monitors; includes hand/eye coordination
Work in various environments including adverse outdoor conditions such as cold, rain or heat;
Constant mental alertness and attention to detail required while setting priorities and following up on assignments
Qualified applicants for theProfessional Security Officerposition will meet the minimum requirements, as described below:
High school diploma or equivalent required
At least 18 years of age
Must possess effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with ability to deal with all levels of personnel and the general public in a professional and effective manner; must be able to use initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines
Must be able to frequently prepare written reports and logs in neat, legible handwriting; may require computer skills
Must be able to read and understand all operating procedures and instructions
Must be able to obtain a valid Guard License as required in the state for which you are applying
As a condition of employment, employee must successfully complete a background investigation and a post-offer/pre-employment drug/alcohol test
As a condition of continued employment, employee must maintain current active status of all required License at all times, and must carry the license at all times while on duty
Must display exceptional customer service and communication skills
Remain flexible to ever changing environments; adapt well to different situations
Intermediate computer skills to utilize innovative, wireless technology at client specific sites
Ability to maintain satisfactory attendance and punctuality standard;
Neat and professional appearance
Ability to provide quality customer service
Ability to handle both common and crisis situations at the client site, calmly and efficiently
Read, understand and clearly speak English; constantly use speech and hearing (correctable to normal level required) in communicating with public/co-workers, giving and receiving instructions, using phones
Must be able to handle pressure of working with high volume general public (constantly to occasionally depending on assignment)
